casting folks based primarily on their weight, ignoring things like acting or singing ability (hence the need a year and a half ago for pit singers in Cats).

This is why I stopped auditioning for parts in plays/musicals.

In High School, I auditioned for 'Fiddler on the Roof' and got the one-scene solo part of Grandma Tzeitel. After the play had finished, the student director (also a friend of mine) told me she had wanted me cast as Golde, but the teacher running the show wouldn't let her because the girl cast as Golde (also my best friend) had 'earned' the lead by being in more productions than I had been over the years. It probably helped that she was thinner, also.

The whole show as a fiasco. If we ever meet face to face, I'll tell you about it. It was CWAZY with a capital Q.
