I use Google Reader to keep up with my various newsfeeds and blogs (especially those not on LiveJournal, but some of the folks on my friendslist, too). It's especially good for phone reading, whether you have a fancy-schmancy phone or not, as it offers a fairly clean interface and good useablity (in fact it's better on normal internet-equipped phones than iPhones, as the "view original" link on each feed goes to a mobile-formatted version of the page, which kinda sucks for iPhones).

That's not the point of this post.

The point is that Google Reader recently added a feature that allows you to see how many folks subscribe to your feed (via GR), and I'm the only person reading myself.

It's nice to see that Spatch's cat is four times as popular as he is. Most everybody else on the frienslist only has one subscriber (read: me).

Since you have a gmail account, you already are signed up. Just search for Google Reader. Go to the page, log in, then start adding crap--anything with the little orange box on the address bar (in FireFox) can be added. If you have an internet-enabled cell phone, navigate to the mobile page and login, and you can read the crap your friends write on the bus or in an airport or on the toilet.

I was wrong, it tracks LJ, but not f-locked posts.

Sure it can. You can't add your friends page wholesale (unfortunately), and it won't pick up friendslocked posts, but you can add resk.livejournal.com without any problems.

(Also flickr and myspace (and others), but nobody writes anything worth reading on myspace that I've seen, and I'm scared of what a 120 picture Flickr upload will do to my reader feed).

Whoa. I did a feed search on "thedarkpenguin". Not only are there two people subscribing to my journal (including myself), but there also used to be a journal on blogspot called "Random Kid Vs. The Dark Penguin".

I find this intriguing and wonder if this was just some dude making fun of my entries. If so: awesome.
