A primadon? A divo?

So I've been rehearsing for a few weeks to perform the role of Daddy Warbucks in Annie, and got an email today telling me my performance schedule (there are two casts) for the two December weekends that the show runs.

I have Saturday and Sunday matinees and one Thursday night performance.

I am apparently the Understudy Warbucks. For this I have to shave my fucking head.

Actually, when I went to see a professional touring production of Annie as a child in downtown Detroit, there happened to be an understudy performing as Daddy Warbucks that night. He was great! And he did NOT have a shaved head. He had grey hair. It was what tipped me off that he wasn't the guy pictured in the program and that was when my mom explained to me what an understudy was.

I wouldn't mind so much, but I kinda feel like I was deceived when they offered me the part. I put in nearly two months of rehearsals, shave my head, and get the gigs nobody actually comes to.

Oh, and get asked to pay $40+ for the privilege.

Okay, I'm not saying you weren't wronged, however, as a Box Office Babe I don't think you are getting "the gigs nobody actually comes to." I realize I don't work at this theatre, but at TM, matinees are well populated for a family show cause, well, families like to go out during the day, not at night. We could have held SOM over indefinitely if we just did matinees and I wish they would add some Saturday matinees to JOSEPH and get rid of some of the evening shows cause I think they'd sell much better.

However, if you are referring to people like you and me, hell no, I don't go to a matinee unless forced to do so or if someone bribes me with cookies.
