Hannanibal Reisling

Last night I started reading Thomas Harris' latest tour-de-force, Hannibal Rising. I finished it this morning after a full night's sleep, thanks to the magic of really large print and really short sentences.

If you're interested, it's neither as bad as Hannibal, nor as good as either Red Dragon or The Silence of The Lambs. The plot is predictable, but not nearly as rife with killer pigs and using cast-iron skillets to contact the spirits of the dead as Hannibal was, and it's a pleasant enough diversion to fill four or so hours.

Is it pre- or post-SotL? Will the aged Sir Anthony lok more or less ridiculous in his bread-and-butter role when they make the film?

speaking of the films, I haven't seen one of them yet that was nearly as good as Manhunter. Inna Godda da Vida, baby. Hopkins can chew concrete scenery to pulp, but neither he nor Buffalo Bill creeped me out as much as the Tooth Fairy.

It's pre-Red Dragon, starting when Hannibal's about six and ending when Hannibal's in his early twenties, leaving room for a couple more books should Harris feel like going to the well again. It runs into one of the major problems with prequels, in that you know he's got to live at the end of it.

Manhunter was good as it went, but unfortunately when they used the High Museum of Art in Atlanta as their "prison" set it completely took me out of the movie.
