Christmas Party! Woo!
Dec. 12th, 2007 07:30 pmA month and a half ago I asked the HR person at work what the company did around Christmas as far as holidays, etc., as I hadn't received a schedule of days off or the like. She told me that because they were a Christian company, they got Christmas and Christmas Eve off. I told her that at the agnostic companies I used to work for we usually got the whole week. In any case, I'll take a couple of personal days to fill in the gap, as they kinda screwed me out of my vacation by making a different written offer than what was discussed during the interview.
Because I'm doing A Christmas Carol this year, I'm going to have to miss the company Christmas party. They usually hold it at a hotel near the facility and because they're a Christian company there's no drinking. Also we're supposed to bring a toy for a 10-12 year old child, to be donated to a needy family. I have no problem with that, but they told us that we were supposed to include a note with a favorite bible verse about giving on it, and I immediately had one spring to mind:
I don't think that's what they intended.

MATTHEW 6:
2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
I don't think that's what they intended.
