Do you know what it's like when you can't get "Leader of The Band" out of your head, and every time you look at the "Google Trends" page it STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN? No? Would it be cruel of me to write the phrase "met my old lover at the grocery store" just to spread the misery?

Fogelberg had a wicked sense of humor about his own work. I once heard an interview of his (was it on Fresh Air?) where he said he pretty much got the melodic inspiration for Same Old Lang Syne from the 1812 Overture, and then proceeded to illustrate it by singing "Met my old lo-ver at the gro-cery store -- BOOM!"

Funny how he was put in the mellow soft rock category, but he had a compelling way of writing evocative story songs. Heck, I was working in a grocery store on Christmas Eve and someone had the bright idea to play Same Old Lang Syne on the music system, and I prowled about the aisles looking to see if I could notice an long-lost couple running into each other.

Didn't see anyway, but I liked the idea of grabbing a six pack and draining it after work.

I don't know the song you're referring to, but I happily report that "Leader of the Pack" is now in my head.
