I'm sitting in row F of the Fox Theatre in St Louis; the curtain should go up in eleven minutes. The last press of late arrivals is probably gonna make it so that we can't move to improve our sightlines, although the sightlines aren't Bad, per se, they could certainly be better. The green laser projector is making the emerald city diagram on the grand shimmer and glow. The woman next to me is jostling for elbow position. Hoping to move at intermission, as the row in front of us is vacant. The woman next to me is shaking her leg against mine; I dont know if its passive aggressive or if she has poor muscle control. I've heard rumors of snow tonight; odd since its 54 degrees out at the moment. Three minutes to go. If this woman doesn't stop shaking her leg it's gonna be a long three hours.

If you're like me, that lady's leg won't have been the only reason Wicked was a long three hours. Get back to us as to whether you enjoyed it.

It's pretty good, as the last example of the dying megashow era, where spectacle was the driving force (compare to single-set Rent or one-acts The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Drowsy Chaperone for shorter, more streamlined shows with less excess). Thematically its kinda all over the place, and musically it's a little weak (beyond "Defying Gravity" and "Popular" there's not much there), but for the in-jokes with the movie, and Really Good Tech, it's worth seeing once.

I should note that I haven't read the book (although it's around here somewhere), and based on wikipedia pages there's a pretty substantial deviation from plot etc. If I had read the book and nothing else about the show, I'd probably be disappointed.
