I think I've discovered which campaign Karl Rove's working on. Having the head of BET imply that Obama is a coke fiend is a page straight out of the Rove playbook. Not that using cocaine is a disqualifier from the office of the presidency. Of course, we all know Bob Johnson's concept of black empowerment.

I dislike having to criticize the Clinton campaign, which gets more than enough from the "Hillary's a bitch" division of the right wing, but dipping into this sort of dirty politics this early smacks of desperation. If Clinton feels that she can't win on her own merits, and seems forced to resort to this sort of remark, perhaps it's better that she take another look at the values of her own campaign.

Howdy, stranger! Indeed the Democrats are busy shooting themselves in the foot at the moment, hopefully there will be some coalescing behind eventual nominee, although from what I've heard there are a number of folks who'd rather skip the election than vote for Clinton, should she get the nod. While in principle I like the idea of making Publicans clean up their own mess, I'm pretty sure if left in charge they'd just dig us into a deeper hole.

I saw what the head of BET said, and I was told what that implied, but I don't think that the Clinton campaign told him to say that, or that he even thought before opening his mouth. If he had, you'd think he'd have phrased it a bit more eloquently.

I also think the Obama campaign's jumping onto Clinton's remark about President Johnson's role in civil rights legislation as some kind of a racist attack against MLK was pretty dirty politicking.

The Lyndon Johnson thing is a little touchy (which is why I've not commented on it), but the head of BET is known for making scurrilous and incendiary statements about other black folks--a comment about McGruder brought about the cartoon that I linked.

I consider comments such as Bob Johnson's the first volleys of an attempt at swiftboating Obama, and even if the Clinton campaign didn't explicitly order it, their failure to publicly disavow them makes me lose respect for them. The "it took a president to realize King's dream" thing is more of a tempest in a teapot.
