I got a relatively close look at the new Tennessee license plate on the way in to work this morning, and noticed what seemed to be a plume of smoke trailing up the middle of the plate (you'll notice that there is no plume of anything on the plate in the link). Perhaps it was to represent the Great Smoky Mountains park? Or maybe a double helix of DNA as a reminder of the Scopes trial? A biological symbol as a special treat to Bill Frist's drug company connections?

As it turns out, it's just a goofy-looking anti-copy hologram. I wasn't aware that forged license plates were such an epidemic problem.
