Yesterday I posted an entry on Dick Cheney's war profiteering, and was rewarded with anonymous insults. The complete anonymity of the insulter baffles me: after all, livejournals are mostly anonymous in the first place, and I know the given names of only a handful of my online acquaintances.

Living in Memphis I know more than my share of red state conservatives--folks who treat the words of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter as gospel truth and buy into the notion that Fox News is somehow a balanced news source. A surprising number of these have turned out to be unemployment cheats--working in unreported self-employment and simultaneously drawing unemployment benefits to handle the overhead of their business; which failed thanks to a combination of incompetence, corruption, and bad luck.

One of these moved to D.C. to live with his mother after his business partners and the bank became unhappy with him. His resume cleverly omits his failed marriage, his DUI's, his string of jobs, and his alcoholism. He's the only conservative blogger I know in the flesh and blood form--although the last time I check he'd stopped posting to his blog.

This is the image I have of my anonymous insulter. That or Dick Cheney himself--if it was Dick Cheney, I would have expected more swearing, though, and thinly-veiled threats to crush me with a KB&R assassination squad.

Does anyone other than me think that maybe the recent "25 questions" meme is secretly a Valero advertisement?
