More eating.
Dec. 11th, 2006 08:04 amToday we had our contract and technical meeting with the subcontractor, and had lunch in the executive dining room at their facility, which was pretty good--although there was some sort of mollusk that bore a striking resemblance to disembodied vaginas, simmered in a stew of green tea until it was just chewy. My parents never told me to clean my plate with any reference to starving children in any part of China, but based on what we've left over at these corporate meals we could feed entire villages for weeks at a time, and I feel a little guilty over the overt wastefulness.
Tonight, we had a local specialty known as "Instant Boiled Mutton," which is more appetizing than it sounds. It's essentially thin-sliced mutton served with a Schezuan broth of hot peppers, lemongrass, garlic, and assorted other spices, and it's very tasty, but the sheer volume of mutton left over after the meal was nothing short of embarrassing.
In any case, trying to snatch food speeding past on a turntable has improved my chopstick skills dramatically.
