Tonight we're supposed to have a semi-real audience for Guys and Dolls for a sponsor's preview. Last night we had a couple of theatre folks who couldn't make it otherwise, and we embarrassed ourselves by not making set changes, blowing lines, forgetting songs, and generally acting like we didn't give a shit whether the show sucked or not. Of course, that attitude probably stems from the director (Mrs. Cwabs), who left final dress a half-hour before curtain so that she could go do a press conference for Jerry Springer--The Opera. Needless to say, this upset MANY members of the cast and crew, although she's oblivious to any disappointment that isn't mine. One the music director discovered that she'd left the building, he blew a gasket, and threatened to start the show whether the cast was ready or not--we eventually talked him out of it, but I was angry for the rest of the evening.
She finally showed back up nearly three hours later, delighted that there's a chance that whatever she did is gonna be on TV in New York, and pissed that everyone else couldn't be professional enough to run the show perfectly even though she'd thought it wasn't important enough to stick around.
