Exhaustion

Just got back from three hours in the emergency room with my daughter, who is apparently suffering from exhaustion.

Since it's nearly 3am, I can safely say that it's contagious.

Edit, in the cold harsh light of morning: Full story. Daughter had a band competition yesterday afternoon, and wife had to run tech for A Streetcar Named Desire, so I was looking forward to an evening playing World of Warcraft and maybe grabbing some dinner that I don't normally get to eat. WoW made me lose track of time, as usual, so I'd written off the dinner thing when Mrs. Cwabs called on the cell phone:

"I need you to get out to $HIGHSCHOOL and take our daughter to the emergency room. She can't move her arms or legs."
"What? Did she get injured? What's going on?"
"Just go!"

I jumped in the car and zipped out to the high school, only to discover that my daughter wasn't there--they were en route from the band competition. My wife was no longer answering her phone, so I called my daughter, who told me that she was experiencing weakness in her extremities, at that the on-site paramedic (who travels with the band) thought that she might be anemic or perhaps diabetic, and that they would be at the high school in half an hour. I used the time to try to diagnose her symptoms over the internet, and came to the conclusion that she'd either had a stroke or a case of botulism (stupid internet). My wife showed up about five minutes before the buses did; she'd left her phone behind when she left the theatre.

The buses showed up and naturally the equipment trucks found it necessary to block us in, which was quickly resolved. My daughter was moving under her own power, only verrrrrry slooooowly. We tossed her in the car, and drove to the emergency room, where my wife parked in the no parking zone as she escorted her to triage. I subsequently moved her car to a parking place two hundred yards away, down the hill, as there was no parking at the ER at midnight on Saturday. We eventually get sent back, they take blood (daughter ridiculously squeamish about needles, incidentally, and weeps profusely at the procedure) and urine, and we wait for an hour or so for the tests to come back and to talk to the doctor, who informs us that there's nothing wrong, she's just got muscle exhaustion, and that she needs to relax. Otherwise she's healthy as a horse.

Daughter's been having some other medical problems (I'm not going to discuss those here for the sake of her privacy), which we discuss with the doctor, but he seems to think they're unrelated beyond the possibility of everything being stress-induced. Insurance forms, discharge papers, we're out by 2:15.

Mrs. Cwabs car, which I moved to a legitimate parking space, won't start because I left the lights on. We'll have to go get it this morning.
