Hooray! We're screwed!
Aug. 5th, 2008 09:09 amOne of the downsides to living out in the sticks (like I do) is that my representative is Marsha Blackburn, who listed on her congressional website a speech she made back in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq that "Iraq attacked us on 9/11." She has acted as nothing more than a cheerleader and rubber stamp for the Bush administration, and in spite of the demographic unlikelihood, I'd love to see her go.
The primary vote is Thursday, incidentally.
Finding information on her potential Democratic challengers is a challenge--eventually I discovered that the two candidates in the Democratic primary are James Tomasik of Cordova and Randy Morris of Waynesboro.
Here's where the problem lies. The highest population density in the 7th District is in the Memphis suburbs that Tomasik calls home, and that leads one to believe that he'll win the primary by virtue of his residence. Ordinarily I'd be cool with that, but Tomasik is deluded enough to support "FairTax," the tax increase for people who are bad at math. It virtually guarantees his defeat in the general election, too, since nobody in the district is gonna vote for a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.
I shoulda run. Maybe next time.
