At some point I began singing these alternate lyrics:

"A spoonful of medicine makes the medicine go dry"

And I've never stopped.

It works if you consider that Mary Poppins could well have been a cough syrup junkie, bemoaning her rapidly dwindling stash via an ironically upbeat tune.
