Checking my voicemail at lunch turned up this little ditty:
Hey Randy, It's Lauren calling with the Memphis Grizzlies. I just wanted to call and say thanks so much for coming to our PA auditions last week, unfortunately you were not selected as one of our finalists. But again, thanks for taking the time to come and audition! Take care, I hope all is well. Byebye.

Naturally, I didn't expect to actually get the job (there are trained voice professionals in town against whom I was up, whom I was up against, whom against up I was who are all bastards, and the callback was the extent of what I was hoping for, but having your rich fantasy life shot down makes for a less-fun Monday.

I guess I'll just have to come back and audition to sing the national anthem.

Well, that was one of the more politer (politer?!) refusals I've heard seen transcribed.

Sorry you hurt your butt. It's their loss, they don't know what they'll be missing. Buncha hineys!

True--and it's basically an easy-come, easy-go situation. I think it cost me a whole six bucks for parking, and it was fun while it lasted. Where else can you go out for a ridiculously cool job?

Aw, durned. I'm glad it was a fun experience, and I'm glad you got the callback (good excitement!), but I still wish you got the gig.

Sorry you didn't get it.

But at least you got the first call-back!

Aw poo. If you do the national anthem thing, remember: "land of the free and the home of the brave" has to be at least half again as long as the whole rest of the song.

STOP CHANNELING ME!

I'm sorry they didn't pick you, dear. They're dummies!

And you have to yell out "O!" at the "Oh say does that..." part. [/oriolesfan]

I don't know if I could have accepted the position even if it had been offered, knowing that my day job is going to send me to China periodically during the next year and a half, and that the Grizzlies would probably demand 100% attendance. Still, I was of the mind of crossing that bridge when I came to it, and we probably could have worked something feasible out as by current boss is pretty understanding about plays and such.
