Next Thursday and Friday a pal o' mine and I are heading to St Louis for a couple of baseball games. We'll probably hit whatever there is around the Arch/Stadium area on Thursday afternoon, and have lunch and pick up amaretto cookies and salami in The Hill on Friday.

Does anyone who lives in/knows St Louis have any specific recommendations?

I suggest checking out the University City (the Delmar Loop) if you're interested in quasi-bohemia. It's actually quite charming. Plenty of good restaurants and the like. Vintage Vinyl is the biggest indie record shop in the area and is worth spending some time to browse in, and Blueberry Hill is close by; their burgers are legendary.

Also, you're cheating yourself if you don't at least spend an hour and a half in the St. Louis Zoo. We just had a baby elephant born (although it's a long walk to go see her) and the Penguin and Puffin Coast exhibit is pretty awesome. And it's all free, except for parking and special exhibits.

I wish I could join you, but I'm working overtime all this week and I won't be free.

Dammit! Now you've got that Mancini song stuck in my head!

My travelling companion broke his foot in twenty-six places some years ago, and therefore likes to walk as little as possible, unfortunately. He might be up for some legendary burgers, however.

Thanks!

Where's a good place to go for a post-game drink on Thursday night?

I'm not entirely sure, as I don't go to too many games, and I don't drink. There's plenty of bars on Laclede's Landing (north of the Arch, more or less along the riverfront), and Metrolink goes from the stadium to the Landing in three stops.
