President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame
What the river has done
To this poor crackers land."

Date: 2007-08-29 05:37 pm (UTC)The most interesting article I read this morning described how returning residents have dealt with the spray-painted X markings on their homes.
Some want nothing to do with them and have removed them any way they can to rid themselves of the reminder.
Others have taken the X, taken it back, and view it as a symbol of defiance and strength and rebuilding, because it's a reminder.
And the last person quoted said he's keeping the spraypaint on as a reminder, but will not do anything to maintain it, opting instead to let it fade with time and exposure to nature.
I feel as if there's a parable in here somewhere, but I can't find any concrete moral nor do I want to find one. Instead, this Yankee thought it was a very interesting insight into... everything. Without getting into politics.
