Four-hour Update: 9 down, certain comments unscreened.

7. I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping...
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Beatles

14. This is the greatest and best song in the world...
- is this just called "Best Song in the World?" It's Tenacious D, ja?

20. Let me tell you a tale of a hot rod race...
- Jesus Built my Hot Rod by Ministry?

I should know more of these, but more than that, I should be finishing my delicious curry for lunch.

7 is right, 14 isn't the best song in the world, it is just a tribute, and 20 seems to be a stumper!

#20 is the opening to Hot Rod Lincoln.

[livejournal.com profile] resk, too. (His comment is still screened for unrelated reasons.)

That particular song, however, begins "Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race," which is just a li'l different.

My first thought was also of Hot Rod Lincoln, but you specified first lines, and I'd argue the first line of that one is "My pappy said son you're gonna drive me to drinkin'". But of course once I've thought of it, Lincoln is playing too loudly in my head for any others to come up. Frustrating.

Pretty good--I expect a correct answer to #13 from you or Hubcap, one. (Assuming my memory is correct, which it may not be)

5 is by Fastball, but I can't recall the song title.
14 is Tribute by Tenacious D

Right you are! Anyone else want to venture a guess on the title to #5?

10. Come Together, the Beatles

17. The Lady Is A Tramp. I know it from Frank Sinatra, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear it's been done by plenty of others

I feel like I ought to know more of these. #20 is making me think of several 60s car songs that I'm fairly sure aren't the right one.

Correct on both counts!

3. "Sir Duke" -- Stevie Wonder (my favorite Stevie Wonder song, btw)
4. This one drove me nuts, so I had to look it up. I just listened to that song YESTERDAY and had it in my head all morning. Why the hell did I think it was Beck instead of Ben Folds? Ugh.
7. "While My Guitar Gentle Weeps" -- TEH BEATLZ
10. "Come Together" -- TEH BEATLZ
14. "Tribute" -- The "D"
16. "Substitute" -- The Who
19. "Young Lust" -- Pink Floyd
20. "Hot Rod Lincoln" by Commander Cody and his Lost Airmen? -- I'm guessing this is wrong, but I hope to get points for the specificity of the guess.

No idea about the others.

Technically, if you Google something you probably shoudn't put it in a comment for everyone else to read. But since nobody else has guess it yet, we'll go ahead and say the artist is right for #4 and see if someone can finish it up.

Also everything else is right. Except #20.

You have the monopoly on correct Stevie Wonder guesses.

I figured it was okay to put in a "spoiler" since you were screening comments.

My bad?

It's cool--like I said, nobody else has submitted a guess for that one, so letting 'em know the artist is helpful, eventually.

I purposely skipped some (but not all) really deep cuts to try to get everything guessed. I figured you'd get the Ben Folds without googlin' though.

I'm still surprised that nobody's guessed #20 (or 2, 9 and 15, for that matter)

6. "Take a Chance on Me" - ABBA

And, since I got them before you unscreened the comments. I swear I had them!

7. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - The Beatles
10. "Come Together" - The Beatles
14. "Tribute" - Tenacious D
17. "The Lady is a Tramp" - Frank Sinatra

You're right on everything but the title of the song for #6, which has the opening lyrics "takeachancetakeachancetakeachancetakeachancetakeachancetakeachancetakeachancetakeachance"

My favorite threat in the car is that I'll switch to ABBA if things don't improve. So far, it's worked on every passenger. In other words, he knows and fears the ABBA. :D

BTW, I almost texted the correct answer to you when it came on during a playlist. But Driving While Intexticated (tm my local FOX affiliate) is bad and wrong.
