Stopgap measures
Dec. 12th, 2007 03:14 pmWhen I got my iPhone last June, I discovered to my chagrin that I could no longer send amusing mass text messages to those of you on my friendslist that chose to receive amusing mass text messages. I've been looking for possible solutions since, and have come across one potential option: the use of a opt-in marketing text messager called EZ texting, which seems reasonably simple to use, and not terribly expensive. I sent a test message earlier today to a select few individuals, and while it looked fairly hideous it seemed to do the trick.
Is there still interest in this? For those who got the message, did it work?
I'm going to set up a link here to opt-in to the list. If you're interested in getting whatever text-message-length detritus might escape my brain click the link, enter your name, number and service provider. I don't know if the service sends a confirmation message or not.

Notifications:
IF you got my earlier message, I put your name on the list myself as a test, which means you're already on it. If you don't want to be on the list, drop me a comment and I'll take you off. I'd appreciate your dropping me a comment anyway, just so I know who got the message (I sent one to myself which went through, but I can't tell for everybody).

Notifications:
- If you enter your number, I, personally, will know your phone number. If you're uncomfortable with this, don't do it.
- I'm not going to give your number to anybody else. Or sell it.
- I'm not even going to call you--if you want to exchange numbers, drop it in the screened comments below, or send me an email, or send me a text message on my user info page, or something.
- If you were previously receiving mass text messages from me, and still want to receive them, go ahead and sign up again via the link. It'll take you ten seconds, whereas I'll have to look up your number and copy it in by hand.
- At the moment, I don't think you're able to respond in the traditional fashion like you useta could. If you want my number to call me names or tell my how funny the last thing I sent was, say so in the comments, and I'll get my number to you.
- It'll cost you whatever it costs for you to get a text message. It'll cost me $0.025 apiece to send them, apparently, so I won't be flooding any inboxes. Folks who previously got messages can tell you that I usually sent them no more frequently than once a week.
- If they fix the mass SMS thing on the iPhone, I may change the way this works, but I'll keep you posted.
- I'm probably forgetting something.
