Looking over the list of suggested words to add to Merriam-Webster (the one which officially created "w00t"), I arrived at one question:

Why the hell isn't quixotic already in there? For Cervantes' sake, it's in The Devil's Dictionary!
QUIXOTIC, adj. Absurdly chivalric, like Don Quixote. An insight into the beauty and excellence of this incomparable adjective is unhappily denied to him who has the misfortune to know that the gentleman's name is pronounced Ke-ho-tay.
When ignorance from out of our lives can banish
Philology, 'tis folly to know Spanish.

-Juan Smith

Meriam-Webster: 100 years too late, or just useless as a dictionary?

Bootiliciously yours,
Fancycwabs.

EDIT: Apparently "quixotic" and several other words on the list are already in said dictionary, and the list I consulted was nominees for "word of the year." Stupid word of the year should always be motherfucker.

Then why was it on the list of words to add to the dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/info/07words.htm)? Are the people included in this poll not bright enough to have actually consulted the dictionary prior to suggesting the words?

I think I might already know the answer to that

Looking carefully, it appears that over half the words on the list would already be in most dictionaries. Maybe this list isn't of words to add to the dictionary after all.
