Here it is the 30th of January, and I haven't done anything creative or intellectually stimulating since 2007.

I've got to get to work on some of these back-burner projects. Or find some smart real-life friends.

You're layin' the tracks!

But you've auditioned! And been called back!

Assuming I get cast, rehearsals for that don't start until May, and I've got The Underpants booked for end of February--April. I just need a fun three or four weeker. I've got a couple of ideas bouncing around, but getting them on paper is proving difficult. Maybe I need a new notebook.

What I'm really looking for is a salon, but most of the "artistic" types I'm RL friends with are intellectual lightweights. My smrt friends all exist in LiveJournal--and the one guy who lives in Jonesboro.

That strategy has certainly worked well for the rest of my body. :D

You're unfamiliar with the tradition of the salon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salon_(gathering))? What I'm really looking for is more of an Algonquin Round Table (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algonquin_Round_Table) thing, but I guess those mainly exist in virtual spaces these days.

When I was younger, in my college and post-college days, before the real start of the internet age, I was fortunate to have the acquaintance of one Eugene Walter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Walter), and he made a great contribution to my love of intellectual discourse, and the desire to hang with smart folk. Memphis, sadly, has precious few genuinely smart folks (who skip town pretty quickly), and a whole assload of poseurs.

I would love to be part of a salon. Reckon I knew what it was, just not by that name.

We have a one that takes place here, of course, and I have scads of creative-types on my friendslist here, and we discuss our projects, and so on. I just miss the type where actual community laughter takes place, where a joke can be timed, where witticisms develop naturally and organically--message boards and IRC are great, but there's a certain human interaction element that I'm missing.
