The sadness around yesterday's election results still lingers.

"But," you say, "but the Democrats took control of the House! They're likely to have a strange majority in the Senate, once the court cases are decided! Why be sad?"

I'm sad because there was a time when Tennessee elected people like Al Gore to national office. Even Bill Frist, though he was evil, was an evil genius. He had a lair.

Now we have Bob Corker, who's only as evil as the villian in a Frank Capra movie. And Marsha Blackburn, who's really barely an evil henchman to the only evil mastermind left in Washington, watching the action from his den in the Naval Observatory.

"But Rove!" you protest, "Rove is certainly an evil genius! You have to admit that!"

Rove's more of a psycho--the crazy oracle the evil mastermind keeps locked away and talks to when he needs a new fiendish scheme. He would not wear a purple suit and command armies of henchmen, like Cheney. I doubt seriously if he has a decent maniacal laugh--even Bush has a crazy laugh.

*Sigh* Things just ain't gonna be the same.
