- The BVD Season 1 of Mad Men was $31 at Amazon. Lots of folks have recommended it, and I've caught a couple of the recent episodes and was entertained, so I ordered it and watched the first episode Wednesday night. Nice character set up, fun premise, excellent production design. This morning as I drove into work, I realized that the advertising company served shrimp cocktail for their initial meeting for the Jewish furniture store account.
- Marriage dissolution is proceeding in a mostly orderly fashion. Now that I'm pushing for a rapid separation, I'm detecting a little foot-dragging on the party of the second part. Or the first part. One of the party parts, anyway. Finances are getting demixified, bills separated, possessions distributed. Feelings are still somewhat mixified, but that's to be expected. I need to stop wearing my wedding ring, I guess, but it feels weird not having it on.
- By the way, thanks to everyone for the supportive comments, mojo, and advice through the whole marital-breakup thing. I don't say thanks nearly often enough for the support I get from others, but I really do appreciate it.
- I'm saddened that Sweeney Todd's week-to-week rehearsal schedule changes keep me from making it to New Orleans next weekend. "Rehearsal TBD" is a very passive-aggressive way to direct--"You can't do anything ELSE, but you may not have to do anything here, either." On the bright side, I put the actor playing Anthony in a wrist lock (learned in taekwondo) yesterday, which proves the Steve Martin axiom that you'll use everything you ever learned onstage eventually. I should learn more cool stuff.
- Nobody's sure exactly what's happening in Oxford for tonight's will-he-or-won't-he debate. I don't see a way for McCain to come out of this not looking like a schmuck, whether he shows up or not. I don't see him giving Obama ninety minutes of unimpeded air time, though, so I think he'll show. And probably be treated as a conquering hero by his delusional supporters.
- I have something like eight days of vacation to take before the year is out. What to do?
