  • I've had a long and stressful couple of days. I'm not going to go into details, but suffice it to say that I haven't had much fun anytime recently.

  • Ostrander (the local theatre awards) nominations finally came out a couple of days ago, and my work was, sadly, overlooked. Two of my fellow actors from The Underpants did get nominations, though, which is great--but apparently my own singing and acting just doesn't measure up to the standard set by a High School Musical 2.

  • Today I went into the mens room to discover that the inside handle/lock on the stall door was soaking wet. I am hoping that it had been doused with Lysol, because anything else is unthinkable.

  • Sweeney Todd rehearsals begin tomorrow. I'm hoping that it functions as an escape from stress, instead of an additional stress, but at the moment I'm not particularly optimistic.

  • I found the seasons first sand pears at the farmer's market on Saturday and made a pie, which was delicious. Also, vegetable soup (great) and fried okra (too much okra in the pan caused a problem, but it wasn't terrible).

  • Currently reading Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff. I kinda expected it to be non-sexy, in spite of the subject matter, but that it's both short and plodding is a bit of a surprise. Also started The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, which I really should be reading instead.

  • Co-worker brought back Jaffa Cake from his trip to England, but his four-year-old ate them during an unexpected layover in Newark. I did get a bottle of Old Speckled Hen, which will be a welcome refreshment this evening.

I'm currently reading Armageddon in Retrospect, the first posthumus book by Kurt Vonnegut.

I was just talking to [profile] annicat about how thalidomide is making a comeback.

I do believe that I'm going to be playing Scrabble with a complete stranger in about an hour.

A jaffa cake? That would barely get the cravings going.

What you need, my man, is a BOX of the buggers. Hmmmm. Is it a "I've had these and they're made of the yum" type desiring, or a "The Internets say I should try these" type craving, or a "WTF are these Jaffa Cake things anyway?" enquiry?

I should make some care packages.

That would be the latter two. I would offer Moon Pies in exchange, but Moon Pies are actually kinda vile. Nutty Bars would probably be a worthwhile exchange for those without peanut allergies.

You willingly eat Okra, but you find moon pies vile??

Buh?

Okra is a vegetable, and moon pies are a chemical.

Okra is NOT a vegetable. Okra is a living puddle of slimy goo that won't leave your mouth!

At least moon pies are a chemical that is designed to be pleasing to the lizard brain.

*scuttles off defiantly to her lovely cauliflower and garden peas and teeny fresh carrots*

the CSA has taught me that Okra is WONDERFUL.

And moon pies are indeed gross.

I'm intrigued by moon pies now, though wikipedia suggests they're kinda Wagon Wheels with another name.

Let me get to plotting packages.

My theory: Your body works to protect stress cells, not recognizing them as invading demon seed. Thus stress can only be addressed chemically, by attacking your own immune and endocrine systems and leaving stress vulnerable. Then you apply a remedy of highly potent comedy and/or geek toys. Finding the most effective mix can only be achieved through trial and error. Good luck.
