While driving to lunch today I happened to notice that in the shopping center next to the single Korean restaurant in all of Memphis (that I'm aware of), they've now opened a Vietnamese place. I think. They have a bowl of pho on the sign anyway. Finally.

The son's off to Dollywood (and environs, I presume) with his biological father, and the daughter's leaving tomorrow for choir tour to NYC. This means five (or maybe seven) whole kid-free days! I should take some vacation time.

The plays: Fiddler closes on Sunday ("You could not tell onstage who was Jewish and who was not"), Cats opens on Friday ("Someone's gonna kill themselves dancing on the tire"), A Few Good Men just started rehearsals ("Y'all are turning this into a comedy!"), Oliver has its first read-through tomorrow ("I'm thinking of playing Bill Sikes as Tim Curry from Rocky Horror."HA! But no."), I had to turn down an impromptu offer of a chorus part in My Fair Lady, and auditions for Othello are two weeks away ("I am NOT making Othello a Klingon!").

That, plus I'm singing for a recording of a new oratorio based on Ruth (King James Version). I'm told that the dress for the recording session is tuxedo, which may be enough to have me drop out, as I tend to wear tuxedos only in circumstances that might increase my chances of getting either paid or laid, and this doesn't qualify for either.

Still, it's nice to be in demand.

My friend Jim played the rabbi's son in an all-Gentile cast of Fiddler. Literally, there were no Jews, but so many of them looked like they could've been, it was great. Check out Tevye, in the center. The man was born to play Tevye! (That's not he cast Jim was in, clearly.)
