Opening Night

We had a really good opening night; a very responsive audience of about 50 (out of probably a hundred seats in the theatre, which isn't great, but there was a lot of theatrical competition with Jesus Christ Superstar, Parade and Tongue of a Bird both closing and The Graduate and Menopause, the Musical ongoing. Plus the weather last weekend cancelled a bunch of shows and now I'm making excuses.
On the sponsor's preview night (the night before we opened) Elbow leapt on a bench and brandished a nightstick at me, which got a laugh. When he tried it again last night, he missed the bench and tumbled arse-over-teacups off the platform (a six-inch-high platform, but still). Then he straightened himself up, shouted "God Dammit!" in character, and proceeded with the scene. The director's husband said it scanned (a little joke on his part. The scene's in prose.).
I'm told that the reviewer from the Commercial Appeal wasn't there last night, which is a shame as it was a really good opening night performance. In all likelihood he'll attend this evening, and I'll post a link to the review next Friday.
