Early yesterday morning (like 4am) a coworker was supposed to meet another coworker to fly to Chicago, and due to getting lines of communication crossed, one coworker was dropped off here at work and the other drove his car to the airport, which meant that the first coworker didn't have any way of getting to the airport.

So coworker 1, being a devoted employee with no other recourse, decided to walk. It's about a two-mile hike from our office to the airport, which you could probably still make in under an hour dodging traffic and getting your bearings straight. I don't think he quite had an hour, though, so he was a little concerned about missing his flight. As he approached the airport perimeter, he saw a potential shortcut that he thought would shave some time from his journey: he threw his bag over the perimeter fence at the airport, laid his coat on top of the barbed wire, and jumped the fence. Then he had to dodge a plane taxiing out from the FedEx hub getting ready for takeoff, as he was crossing the tarmac. He jumped the fence on the other side of his corner cut (ripping his pants in the process) and made his way to the terminal, where he arrived five minutes too late for his flight, so he called someone and came back to the office.

I took him to the airport for his rescheduled later flight. I'm sure the TSA officals made him remove his shoes and that he wasn't allowed to bring a bottle of water through security.

Please. This is Memphis. We're the weak link in the security chain.
