fancycwabs: (Fuck it)

No divorce. My case was nearly last on the docket, and the judge had "somewhere to be," so they will reschedule. Hopefully before years end, because the marriage penalty could be significant. Since I've taken the vacation day anyway, I'm going to make it a mental health day and do stuff instead.

I came home checked the mail (from yesterday) and discovered a tiny Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] tyopsqueene! Thanks! All Christmas cards are being logged over on my Daytum page, so if you want to number yourself among the statistics, get those cards out!

Great call on taking it as a mental health day.

Horay, I am a statistic.

'somewhere to be' does not sound like a proper legal excuse to me. Git.

They are ALSO displayed prominently upon the mantle, and not immediately logged and subsequently shredded, in case that had been inferred.

I'm asking out of ghoulish professional curiosity, but why do they make it so hard to get a divorce?

If the two of you have been separated for awhile, and you've settled everything else, why can't you just file some paperwork and be done with it?

Judges often have "somewhere to be" which saves them from having to sit around in court all day. I have a suspicion that "somewhere" is often a nice cushy club room with nice floofy deep chairs and snifters of brandy by a roaring fire.

I can hook you up with my divorce attorney for a more precise answer, but from what I gather the legal system in Memphis is pretty much ass-backward and busted. I'm told that occasionally folks in contested divorces (much less the uncontested one that I've got) show up only to be told that the court doesn't have time for their nonsense and to come back in six months. Six months!

We have filed the paperwork--unfortunately, even an uncontested divorce requires two minutes in a courtroom to make official. And they just couldn't be bothered for those two minutes, today. Too many barnyard animals to be fucked, and that takes a higher priority, always.

Why couldn't the stupid judge be bothered? How hard can it be to do the little tiny bit of paperwork that an uncontested divorce is?

Wow, I want to be a judge now. They don't have to do work!

That sucks, hardcore.

Good luck getting this taken care of by year's end. I hope that The Somewhere The Judge Needs To Be next time is behind his bench listening to your case.
